YOUR BEAUTY and splendor have everyone talking; I compose songs on YOUR wonders. Psalm 145:5 9 (Msg)

Islimela –

Islimela is the fine arts division of 1 Old Note. We dance, we sing; we put together words and melody, translated in our bodies and lived out in our lives as an offering unto the Most High God – the LORD.

Worship –

We offer sacrifices of praise and worship to God through the talents and giftings that He has given to us.

God is God who hates robbery and oppression. We are His anointed hands and feet to bring awareness and freedom

Psalm 139

Artist Statement

Psalm 139, Ink on Paper, 2019

This piece based on Psalm 91 seeks to confront the journey towards self expression in a world that layers us with expectations and misunderstandings. To break out from that requires a lot of courage because it often proves to be a lonely journey.
Woolen material is used to cover the face as wool is an object of warmth and comfort. This resembles the false sense of comfort that comes by selling yourself short to fit into the mould that is cut out for you. You hide your true beauty, your identity to escape feeling exposed a sense of rejection.
The bold background colours communicate a sense of breaking out of the mold as the wool falls away.
