As Yourself | Overflow to Man
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm 23:5 (NIV)
In this devotional we will look at how once we have heeded the call to relationship with God He, after cleansing our hearts and healing all the selfish ills of it, uses us as channels of His love. The way God tailors love for each of us is unique and dependent on our needs at a particular moment. One thing remains constant in how He desires us to love those around us; He wants us to always be carriers of hope.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
Jesus came to seek and save the lost and He is the hope He desires us to bring to the world. Our mandate from Him is that we continue the work of love that He started to whomever He leads us to. This way we will be displaying the virtues of the love of Christ that neglect what is contrary to the things of the Spirit.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV)
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
And the law of Christ for us is love.
“And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”‘ Matthew 22:39-40 (NIV)
