Is it not beautiful that we have God who is faithful to His word. God gave us a promise to lead us into our dreams, and visions – the promised land – this year and He has been faithfully doing so through mountain tops and valleys. We have had great moments and have had moments of uncertainty. He has provided for us in clear ways and creative ways. He has never failed to take our breath away with His faithfulness. We have seen Him lead us in faith; we have seen Him allow us to receive daily what we need for that day and today He is calling us into moments of refreshing. These moments need us to follow every instruction we will receive from the Lord.
“Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.” Numbers 20:8 (NIV)
God, when the Israelites needed refreshing instructed Moses to speak to the rock so water could gush out of it for them to drink and meet their need as they traveled with God into their promised land. Sometimes, this will happen and we might need it desperately as we travel with God towards our promises. This does not mean God is not for our promises or dreams, this also does not mean God is not with us in those moments but it means we must ask God what to do so we can access His provision for that given moment so we can live as we journey with Him. He has plenty for us but we need to ask God and obey even when it does not make sense to us. We must obey every instruction so we do not miss what God has for us.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” Psalm 23:1-3 (NIV)
When led by God, we will never lack. God is truth, therefore there is no lie in Him.
There are blessings in living in obedience to God and there are curses in living in disobedience to God. We must follow God’s every instruction and we must follow them well. Moses, when offended by the Israelites, struck the rock that God had instructed Him to speak to and God punished him. God is serious about the things He instructs us to do and He wants us to do them and to do them well. To not follow God’s instruction well is to prove to Him that you do not trust Him.
“But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.’ “Numbers 20:12 (NIV)
God works orderly. He wants His plan to be followed because nothing in it is useless. His instructions are therefore holy.
God is sending us to our promises. God is holding us and our every moment and we will always walk in this blessing of guidance, direction, and plenty if only we learn to obey His instructions and ask for His grace to help us.
God is faithful to show us what rocks we are to touch for His provision to flow to us. When He does, we must talk to our rocks and let God do His work. We must not allow frustration to grip us, we must do what we are to and know that our faithful God will do what we cannot. He is powerful and faithful.
"For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground ; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendents." Isaiah 44:3 (NIV)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.” Deuteronomy 28:1 (NIV)
