He Leads Me Towards Green Pastures
"For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." Revelations 7:17 (NIV)
Never have we needed rest like we do right now. The aftermath of the pandemic still erodes our lives – loss of lives and livelihoods. Yet the world around us still brews strife and hope for peace is something that seems far fetched. God promises us peace in this season. He has not only promised this but is giving it to us. This is the season that we see the peace that God has promised.
"He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters," Psalm 23:2 (NIV)
At the beginning of the year we professed a God led year for 2022. This meant that our minds had to be surrendered to Christ and our hearts submitted to His leading in every way to enjoy this and every benefit that comes with it. Part of the benefits of being led by God, this is over and above provision, is rest. It is peace. It is resting in the place of God of no turmoil, no trouble. God says there is no trouble in His land and therefore there is no trouble in the land of those who are submitted to Christ, regardless of the deception of the devil. God leads us towards green pastures.
Green pastures can be defined as a place of rest, a place to recoup strength. It is a place of feeding and pleasing aesthetics. A place of God’s watering, ever green, no thistles – tended to by God. We lie down, we rest. We find comfort and are at peace.
What does this mean?
"Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain." Isaiah 40:4 (NIV)
God is making all things easy. What we used to toil for He will give to us with ease. Hills are brought up and mountains brought low. God is tending to us and feeding us by His hand.
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17 (NIV)
Goodness is ours. We will see His goodness. All that we need and desire He will give. All that is good and perfect comes from Him. Whatever it is that we need He will provide.
"Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture." Psalm 100:3 (NIV)
He loves to have us around – He died to have us around. We will be in His ever abiding presence and dwell in the benefits of this. We will dwell in love, joy, peace, miracles, words of wisdom. We will bear every fruit and manifest every gift.
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11 (NIV)
We will find safety. Jesus, the Good Shepherd will stop at nothing to have us safe and secure. He will protect and cover us. He is our Shepherd.
"Therefore Jesus said again, 'I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep." John 10:7 (NIV)
An invitation still stands to enter the gates of God’s pasture. Jesus is the Gate by which we can enter. We enter through this gate by confessing our sins and believing that He is Lord and was raised from the dead. We then can enjoy the benefits of salvation.
"Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name." Psalm 100:4 (NIV)
