Holiness Exposed

Sometimes we may wonder why God brought the law and not just sent His Son to die for usbon the cross and atone for our sinnonce and for all. We may wonder why He takes the processes He does that may seem to take longer when we finally see a bit of His point. Although God is mighty and wise with His ways unprecedented to man, He still takes time to make us understand some things that He does so that we may buy into His love, so that we may be drawn to Him.
Man is born in sin because when sin entered the world through Adam a curse followed them and their seed. We are all a product of the seed. God had to expose our hearts to us so that we could understand that not only are our hearts filled with all kinds of evil but on our own we cannot save ourselves – that we need saving. Jesus is the only one who was able to live a life of holiness on earth, all man failed.
“What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, ‘You shall not covet.’ ” Romans 7:7 (NIV)
What is holy exposes what is unholy. Light exposes darkness. Without light we do not know what darkness looks like. Without the law we do not know what sin looks like. The law came and exposed sin. Sin that caused us to die. God had to come with the law to expose our sin, sin that Jesus would conquer. Without the law we wouldn’t have understood our sin and work of Jesus on the cross would have been invain – at least for us.
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’ ”
1 Peter 2:21-22 (NIV)
When Jesus died for us so that we may be free from the law. The law exposed our sin which brought about death; Jesus came to set us free from the bondage of sin. We must accept the life of Christ so that we may receive forgiveness for our sins and find grace that helps us to live a life of holiness before God.
