Known by the Father
Recently as I have been going through my social media pages I happened to come across a lot of images with children suffering from chronic illnesses who were, without fail, carried by parents at rest. Then I remembered God. I remembered how He holds us in the most drastic of situations; in moments when we should have been insane; when we should have been broken but He kept us together. Then I remembered a word that the Lord reminded me of a few days ago during my moments of devotion with Him. This word was rest.
God has called us to a place of rest. A place of holding on to His truth as the world tosses us to and fro. He has called us to hold on to what He has said, what we know to be true of Him – that He is deliverer, that He saves and that He is faithful.
We have God and He is ever present. He is with us when life is good and He is with us when life tries us.
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 (NIV)
The peace that God leads us in is not in feelings but in REST. It is in knowing that whatever the winds may blow or the waves may crash will not defeat us because our steadfast is Christ. He is the solid rock on whom we stand. We are the houses of the parables of Jesus – houses built on a rock.
” ‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24 (NIV)
What He has promised will be given us and what He has given us cannot be stolen. The peace of God must lead us, our decisions must not be based on fear but on faith. On trust in God.
Where we have fallen short let us remember Him. Let us remember that even in our most depressive of states He is there. He does not leave us to sink into depression.
We are carried by our Father, who does not panic. He is King. He is Peace. His word is final. We should rest in His peace. Our Solid Rock is the Prince of Peace.
