Outline Glory

According to Anita Taylor “An outline is a fluid back ink used to define the characters and activity within the image.”
“Then will all your people be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor.” Isaiah 60:21 (NIV)
The emphasis is never really on the outline more than it is on the space it defines – the drawing it creates. One may use charcoal sticks, graphite or ink to create the outline. It does not matter how fancy or dull the outline, the glory reflected or lack thereof is never of it but of the drawing itself. That is why we always hear people say things like “what a pretty picture.” or “What a strong drawing” maybe “this image is a bit dull to me” because the outline exists to define the space, the drawing.
As a people who represent Christ Jesus, we are the outline of His image. What we choose to adorn ourselves with does not necessarily define us more than it defines the God we serve. Just like there are various media used to outline or define a drawing, we are also different personalities that define Christ but it is our characters (the way we carry ourselves) that determines whether the Christ we portray is a Masterpiece or dull repulsive image. We cannot all, and we wouldn’t want that, be highlighters or oil pastels, but in our various capacities and personalities we are mindful of the image we want to display.
This does not have to be daunting because there is but one Artist who longs to use us to display His glory by adorning us with beautiful blessings, crowned with love; as long as we allow Him to mould us, sharpen us, peel the covers and squeeze the paint; only then will we reflect a beautiful image of Christ. In and through each of us He knows what aspect He longs to exhibit so allow yourself to remain in His hands and define Him well.
“Let your life be God colourful.”
“ ‘Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.’ ” Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)
