Patterns of God’s Character
Following God’s laws leads us towards a life of peace and fruitfulness. The words of God reveal to us the character of God, His will and His love for us. The character of God is holiness and purity. The will of God is a lifestyle of worship towards Him. His love for us is shown in provision for us.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
When we obey God’s perfect will for us we are led towards the good things that we need and desire for life. When God’s will for Christ required of Him to go through chastisement and death on a cross; Christ responded in obedience to it. This not only made a way for us to the Father but set Him up to His glory.
If we want to see the glory of God in our lives we need to find out what His will for us is and then live in obedience to it. We need to follow the pattern of Jesus for life and see how God will exalt us.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
“He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” Ephesians 1:9-10 (NIV)
“Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to Him and revering Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills…” Deuteronomy 8:6-7 (NIV)
“Do not let this Book of Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1: 8 (NIV)
