Psalm 139 A Spirit of Purity

“O Lord, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar.” Psalm 139:1-2 (NIV)
What beauty it is to call God Lord and have Him as a reliable friend. A friend whom in our journey of holiness and purity enlightens the darkness that may still lurk within us. No man is able to understand His own heart and its intentions but we have a God who searches it and knows it. He sees our weaknesses and He sees the things that bother us. Nothing is hidden in His sight.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? ‘I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.'” Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NIV)
God sees everything in us and knows what will destroy us or build us up. He desires to guard our actions and cause us to be pure of heart and action.
“You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways.” Psalm 139:3 (NIV)
He knows our needs and frustrations even before we express them. He knows how we will go about our days – what we will eat and drink. He details the concerns of our hearts. Yet if we allow Him every step is guided by Him by offering a better way. A way to provision, a way to life. He is the guiding Spirit.
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.” Psalm 23:1 (NIV)
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17 (NIV)
