Rest in Unrest

As long we live on earth we will be faced with seasons of hardships and pain. Sometimes they eat away at us and we are tempted to lose sight of God – tempted to carve our own way to freedom. In such moments, God calls us to lean on Him, to trust Him and walk closely with Him. He calls us to follow His example: He was faced with all types of attacks on earth that weighted heavy on His soul to a point of asking of God to alleviate the cup He had to bear, but because in the seat of His heart was obedience to God’s perfect will, He endured and trusted the path that God had for Him. God calls us to follow this example.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30 (ESV)
God’s yoke is a yoke of gentleness and lowliness. He is gentle enough to come to our level and teach us His ways of righteousness. He is lowly enough to embrace us in our struggles and pains because He is a relatable God. He then helps us follow His path of faith – a path of obedience to God even when our lives are crumbling before us. His grace is enough to carry us when we suffer. He removes the yoke of slavery on us and gives us a yoke of love and freedom.
“He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.” Psalm 25:9-10 (ESV)
“Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed through the Heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)
God is kind. He is able to sympathize with our weaknesses for He knows how our frame is formed. He only allows what He knows we can handle and does not leave us alone at it. He is a great and mighty God who has time to carry us, to guide us and deliver us.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)
God was tempted in every way but without sin. Let us live trusting that our faithful God will never leave us to fend for ourselves, He is God who makes a way. He guides and delivers.
